Fatih – In Pursuit of a City
The exhibition “Fatih – In Pursuit of a City” revisits the Conquest of Istanbul not merely as a military victory, but as a multilayered historical transformation shaped by the convergence of engineering, strategy, logistics, and visionary leadership. From the intellectual world of Sultan Mehmed II to the technical power of the Şahi cannons, and from the construction of Rumeli Fortress to the evolving function of Hagia Sophia, the exhibition offers a compelling perspective on how the conquest was achieved.
Visitors will encounter rare documents from the collections of the Ottoman Archives and Topkapı Palace, including imperial decrees, conquest letters, charters, and title deeds, alongside original artifacts bearing the tughra of Sultan Mehmed II. Through digital restoration work carried out by the Silahtarağa Archive and Energy Museum team, these historical documents have been made visible and legible once again.
Brought to life within the historic atmosphere of Silahtarağa, the exhibition moves beyond conventional narratives of 1453, presenting an inspiring story of civilization shaped by knowledge, technical expertise, and organizational strength.
“Fatih – In Pursuit of a City” will be on view at the Energy Museum from 3 June to 3 July 2026.
