The 100 Illuminations of Istanbul Exhibition

Silahtarağa Power Plant, which introduced electricity to Istanbul in 1914, was not only a center for energy production but also a memory space witnessing the city’s spatial and socioeconomic transformation. Following this rich history, Istanbul Bilgi University Silahtarağa Archive and Paribu brought historic maps together with today’s technologies to realize a unique urban memory project.

The exhibition examines thousands of historic maps and plans from the Silahtarağa Power Plant, documenting Istanbul’s transformation between 1914 and 1983, with a focus on the city’s architectural, cultural, and socioeconomic evolution in the 20th century.
