Archive Talks – From Power Plant to University Campus

As İstanbul Bilgi University Silahtarağa Archive, in collaboration with our Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, we are proud to present the Archive Talks seminar series throughout 2025. The series kicks off on March 17 at 15:00 in the Energy Museum Control Room with the session titled “From Power Plant to University Campus”, featuring talks by Şebnem Yalınay Çinici and Nevzat Sayın.

Inspired by the extensive archival collection of the Silahtarağa Archive—which contains over two million documents related to the Silahtarağa Power Plant (1911–1983) and sheds light on Istanbul’s industrial heritage and urban memory—the Archive Talks seminar series aims to explore Istanbul’s modernization and urbanization processes, the transformation of capital, and the steps of industrialization through architectural, political-economic, sociological, and ecological perspectives.
